We are seeking emerging leaders whose focus for teaching and research is digital manufacturing. There is an interest in both computational and experimental approaches with an emphasis on integration, validation and implementation of solutions to solve manufacturing challenges.

Applicants must have either a demonstrated track record or possess a clear potential to achieve excellence in research and teaching and must be willing to work with, or have experience working with industry, to implement innovative solutions for manufacturing challenges. The Department of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Memphis invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professors, one in the thermal-fluid sciences and another in all areas related to advanced manufacturing (e.g., additive manufacturing), beginning August 2019. Duties include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in mechanical engineering, obtaining research funding from external sponsors, supervising graduate students, and providing professional service. Applicants must have an earned doctoral degree in mechanical engineering or a related field or earn the degree within the first semester of hire, have strong communication and teamwork skills, and a commitment to collaborate on interdisciplinary collaborative research.

The Department currently has 12 tenured/tenure-track faculty positions and an enrollment of about 375 students pursuing B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. Additional faculty hires are expected to meet the student growth, as total enrollment in the Herff College has increased by 30% over the last four years. New faculty hires are targeted towards individuals who can build strong externally-funded research programs, participate in interdisciplinary research, grow the departmental masters and doctoral programs, and establish themselves as outstanding educators.
